Salt Lake City, Sandy and Draper Area Neighborhood Information
 

AVENUES
The Avenues are said to have an ideal location because of the proximity to town and the wonderful views. As Salt Lake City continues to grow, the Avenues have managed to retain their charm and simplicity over the years. Historic homes have become popular to restore and to encourage this activity, tax incentives have been established. A liberal attitude is said to exist in the Avenues, as well as a strong sense of community. 

Small stores are sprinkled throughout these neighborhoods providing locals with a quick and easy way to do laundry or grab some necessities from the market. These establishments keep the atmosphere close to the Norman Rockwell-type. 


CANYON RIM
Canyon Rim was established in the late 1800s and early 1900s as a farming community. Ditches comprised the elaborate irrigation system when this town was established and some of which are still in use. Many of the neighbors in this area enjoy Canyon Rim for a variety of reasons. Quality schools, easy access to freeways, great parks and quiet streets. 


CAPITAL HILL
Capital Hill is known to be the oldest surviving residential area in the Salt Lake City. This historic district is a collection of sub-neighborhoods from City Creek, to the Marmalade historic district, to Wasatch Springs, and Heber's Bench. Capital Hill has a unique atmosphere with skinny streets and contrasting yards that attribute to the classy neighborhood. 


COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS
Cottonwood Heights experienced its greatest growth after World War II in the years of 1950 to 1980. It is located primarily between 6600 South and 9000 South; 1300 East and 5000 East. Cottonwood canyons surround the area sending cool winds down on a hot summer evening. Towering mountains greet the area providing instantaneous access to canyons. The community also boasts about the Jordan School District, recreational facilities, and the services received from Salt Lake County. 


DRAPER
Draper is a horse-friendly community that has a rural atmosphere. There are contemporary large, beautiful homes that are being built in new subdivisions throughout the community. There are modest homes, perfect for first-time home buyers. And there are vast open spaces and horses. Draper residents also agree in the benefit of only being 18 miles away from downtown Salt Lake City. 


FEDERAL HEIGHTS
In the early 1900s, Federal Heights became one of the most fashionable neighborhoods in Salt Lake City. Today, Federal Heights, with its proximity to the University of Utah and downtown, its imaginative collection of homes, and sprawling streets, remains one of the city's most prestigious places. Many of these amazing homes are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 


HARVARD-YALE
Harvard-Yale has a down-home feel, but an upscale nature. The homes in this area vary greatly in size, from a quaint bungalow to large Tudor estates. Antique light posts and mature trees decorate the streets. Harvard-Yale residents pride themselves on the unique architecture of their homes and great location. 


HOLLADAY
Holladay encompasses an area about seven square miles. The homeowners enjoy the proximity to Big Cottonwood and Mill Creek canyons. The community council has one of the largest memberships in Salt Lake County, and one of the most active, according to community leaders. The schools are another asset to the community. Cottonwood Elementary, Olympus Junior High and Olympus High school all have proven track records. 


LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON
Little Cottonwood Canyon is the home to Alta and Snowbird ski resorts. With such fine skiing, close proximity to downtown Salt Lake City and the Salt Lake International Airport, it is not a surprise that real estate opportunities come at a high price. There's a limit to what can be done because of the canyon. Ninety-five percent of the canyon is either National Forest or unbuildable land. People like to know that things are not going to change in Little Cottonwood Canyon. 


OLYMPUS COVE
Nestled against one of the most recognizable peaks in Salt Lake City, Olympus Cove is one of Salt Lake's prized neighborhoods. Mount Olympus surrounds this area while providing a breathtaking view of the city. Olympus Cove sits comfortably above Wasatch Boulevard, situated between 3700 South and 4800 South. The location is wonderful for hiking and biking up to the water towers. 


SANDY
Sandy is the fourth-largest city in Utah. It is located primarily between 7500 South and 12100 South; 700 West and 3400 East, was first incorporated as a city back in 1983. The community love the quality of life that Sandy and its unique location affords. The Wasatch mountains are within easy walking distance of some Sandy homes. Sandy is located in the Jordan School district, all of which are excellent schools. 


PEPPERWOOD
Pepperwood is a gated community that was developed in the late 1970s early 1980s. It is located in Sandy just off of Wasatch Boulevard with beautiful views of the mountains. Pepperwood has a fantastic community pool and many tennis courts for the residents. 


SOUTH MOUNTAIN
South Mountain was one of the first large scale planned community in Salt Lake Valley. South Mountain has been designed with a horse trail, swimming pool, outdoor amphitheatre, and elementary school. 


ST. MARY'S
St. Mary's offers a wide variety of homes located on Salt Lake City's east bench. The community considers it a desirable location in St. Mary's because of its close proximity to downtown and to the University of Utah. The quiet streets and caring neighbors all add to the fabric of this unique community. 


SUGAR HOUSE
Sugar House is a strong community for young and old alike, established in 1853. Shopping is convenient and pleasurable in Sugar House because of the friendly atmosphere, charm, and tradition. Sugar House is primarily located between 1300 South and 3300 South, and 500 East and 2300 East, situated 15 minutes from the mouth of Big and Little Cottonwood canyons and only 10 minutes from downtown. It also features two of the city's oldest public golf courses, Nibley Park and Forest Dale, both with tree-lined fairways. Sugar House is part of the Granite School District.
